Italian Affogato Recipe

Affogato is a delicious dessert that is generally served after a meal.  It is appropriate for any occasion.  It’s a dessert very easy to make that has the perfect balance of consistencies and flavors.

Ingredients:

1 cup of Espresso/Coffee

1 cup of Gelato or Ice Cream

Directions

  1. Prepare a cup of Espresso (don’t add sugar). If you don’t have Espresso, a strong cup of brewed coffee is a good alternative.
  2. Place a scoop of Vanilla gelato in a glass or a goblet.
  3. Pour the coffee directly on top of the Gelato. I usually let my coffee/Espresso cool down before pouring it.  The original recipe calls for hot Espresso but that melts the ice cream in an instant.
  4. Optional: you can decorate it by either adding some chocolate or caramel syrup on top, or even frozen blackberries like in my photo.
